Persevere

Even in this world, if it was not for people with extremely positive attitudes, what we take for granted today would not exist. The first ever academy where I presented a seminar on the philosophy of the Vedas was Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. This is the place where the Wright brothers were from—Wilber Wright and Orville Wright. They were farmers and they had an idea that man should fly. Now we take it for granted but in those days it was not possible for them. They were trying to invent a machine that would make man fly, and people thought they were crazy and unrealistic. “Why are you wasting your time? The birds are supposed to fly. Men cannot fly. You are not birds.” So people used to criticize them.

They spent hours, days, months, and years working on these machines to fly and absolutely no one respected them, recognized them or thought it was possible. They were criticized. “You are fools. You are wasting your time. You are crazy.” People would just laugh at them because they kept failing.

People ridiculed them but they persisted year after year after year and ultimately they flew in the sky, only a few yards. Nevertheless, they actually went up in the air and they saw the potential. And now look at the power of their positive attitude. It may have been impossible but it became possible. Why? Because of the power of the positive attitude of people who believed in the ideal of what they were doing and did not care for what anyone or everyone did. They had faith in their ideal. With faith you can see the invisible, you can believe in the incredible and you can receive the impossible.
